Partnerships with local non-profits like NDA are essential to our mission, helping us achieve greater impact through community engagement and shared stewardship of the land here in Polk County. Upcoming Project, Date & Times: Saturday, August 29th @ 8:30-11:30 AM Woodland Invasive Plant Species Removal @ Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt 11204 NE 118th Ave, Maxwell, IA 50161 Help restore Iowa’s woodland habitat by removing harmful invasive species to promote the growth of native trees, grasses, and wildflowers! Be a part of the effort to protect Iowa’s woodlands and safeguard the natural landscapes that support Chichaqua’s habitat by removing harmful invasive plant species. This work opens the door for native shrubs, forbs, and young trees to return and by default improve the diversity of food and cover that deer rely on throughout the year. This event will help restore high quality habitat that supports healthier deer populations and in turn improve public hunting in Chichaqua. This volunteer opportunity offers a fun and meaningful service-learning experience. You will build your skills in identifying native and nonnative plants, practice effective invasive species removal techniques, and discover how small actions can create a big positive impact across Polk County. It’s a great way to get outdoors and help restore the natural spaces our community depends on.
