Earth Day Trash Bash - Strasser Woods

Join us at Iowa’s largest annual Earth Day event right here in the Des Moines Metro! A collaborative annual event celebrated throughout the Des Moines Metro, Earth Day Trash Bash partners invite thousands of volunteers to come together and commit to a better and healthier environment in central Iowa. Polk County Conservation staff will be stationed at Strasser Woods Forest Preserve in the Fourmile Creek Greenbelt offering participants the opportunity to engage in important habitat restoration work in our woodlands, contribute to beautifying the forest preserve, and protect the adjacent Fourmile Creek. Volunteers will have the options to plant trees, harvest spring wildflower seeds, and pick up litter. Meet in the Fourmile Community Recreation Center parking lot at 1 PM under the Polk County Conservation tent. April 26th @ 1pm to 4pm

- Harvest seed available from spring wildflower species - Complete a planting of memorial planting of 750 trees - Promote the growth of native vegetation to improve wildlife habitat, biodiversity, water quality, and overall health of the woodland ecosystem.

All ages welcome. No experience necessary. - Each event participant will be provided proper personal protective equipment and training as needed. What to Bring: It is recommended to dress for the weather. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Bring a pair of gloves, if you have them - gloves provided for those without. In an effort to promote sustainability at this event, please bring a refillable water bottle.
