Help restore Iowa’s Woodland habitat by removing harmful invasive species to promote the growth of native trees, grasses, and wildflowers! Be a part of the effort to protect Iowa’s woodlands and safeguard the natural landscapes that support Jester Park's forest habitat by removing harmful invasive plant species. This work opens space for native trees, grasses, and wildflowers to flourish, strengthening the health and resilience of this important ecosystem. This volunteer opportunity offers a fun and meaningful service-learning experience. You will build your skills in identifying native and nonnative plants, practice effective invasive‑species removal techniques, and discover how small actions can create a big positive impact across Polk County. It’s a great way to get outdoors and help restore the natural spaces our community depends on. Upcoming Dates: April 9th @ 10 AM - 12 PM & 1 - 3 PM *Volunteers should meet in front of the Jester Park Nature Center

-Remove invasive species including honeysuckle, buckthorn, round leaf bittersweet, and others to aid in the reestablishment of native trees, grasses, sedges, and wildflowers. -Promote the growth of native vegetation to improve wildlife habitat, biodiversity, water quality, and overall health of the woodland ecosystem.

This event is appropriate for ages 8+. No experience necessary. - Ages 12+ will be permitted the use of hand tools - Ages 18+ will be permitted the use of power tools and equipment. - Each participant will be provided proper personal protective equipment and training as needed. What to Bring: Dress for the weather. Required - closed-toe footwear. Recommended – long pants, long socks, work gloves, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Gloves provided for those without. Support our commitment to sustainability by bringing a reusable water bottle to the event.
